Ugandan Athletes at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics

Uganda already has four athletes at the Olympic Games starting Friday, August 5th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The four are boxers; Ronald Serugo and Kennedy Katende as well as swimmers Joshua Ekirikubinza and Jamila Lunkuse. There are two coaches in camp (Sam Rukundo for boxing and Max Kanyerezi swimming).
The officials are Ambrose Tashobya (chef de mission), Elijah Njawuzi (team administrator), Annet Nakamya (chaperone) and Robert Zavuga (team doctor).
Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) Secretary General Dr Don Rukare arrived in Rio on Monday but will not stay in the Games Village same as UOC president William Blick, who reaches Rio on August 9th.
The duo's trip is catered for by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The second and biggest batch of Team Uganda reaches Rio on August 8th. The lot includes runners Halima Nakaayi, Winnie Nanyondo, Ronald Musagala, Peruth Chemutai, Jacob Araptany, Stella Chesang, Philip Kipyeko, Juliet Chekwel, Moses Kurong, Timothy Toroitich and Joshua Cheptegei.
The athletes, who leave Kampala on August 7th and spend a night in Dubai, will be escorted by coaches Faustino Kiwa and Grace Chesang as well athletics federation president Dominic Otucet.
Youngster Jacob Kiplimo arrives on August 7th from Italy.
Marathoners Stephen Kiprotich, Solomon Mutai and Jackson Kiprop leave Kampala on August 15th and reach Brazil a day later.
Sports Minister Charles Bakkabulindi meanwhile is expected in Brazil on Thursday with National Council of Sports chairman Bosco Onyik joining him a day later.
In total, Uganda is expected to field about 21 athletes in 14 events across 3 sports at the Summer games.
Other East African countries are also represented in the games with Kenya taking as many as 80 athletes, Tanzania with 7, Rwanda with 8, Burundi taking 9 and South Sudan – 3.
Some of Africa’s most represented countries include South Africa with 136 athletes expected, Egypt with 118 and Nigeria with 75.
