Coming into this game, Arsenal has more injury concerns than Liverpool as they all prepare to open up their 2016/2017 title campaign but, Arsenal will be playing at home which gives them some hope.
Arsenal has one centre forward in Olivier Giroud when their rivals have three or four each. Don't tell me Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott are centre forwards. They might be able to step in for one or two games but you are not going to win the Premier League that way, Wenger has also appointed defender Per Mertesacker as captain for the new Premier League season.
Mertesacker, 31, had seemed the likely choice for the captaincy until he sustained a knee injury last month that needed surgery, Wenger doesn’t expect the German soon but, he has handed the centre-back the armband regardless, and said vice-captains Laurent Koscielny and Santi Cazorla will fill in until Mertesacker returns.
Mertesacker replaces Mikel Arteta, who retired as a player when his contract expired in June and has joined Manchester City's coaching staff under fellow Spaniard Pep Guardiola, Arsenal will also be without Jenkinson and Welbeck in this opening game.
As for Liverpool, they are decent going forward, they are quick and score goals on the break, but again, defensively they are not too good either.
Sadio Mane will be the man to look out for in the Liverpool side as Klopp launches his first season in charge of Liverpool, Milner has a bruised heel but Klopp has determined it is "possible'' the versatile 30-year-old features while Sturridge who may train with the main group this evening is troubled by a hip injury and is considered behind others in his pre-season fitness work.
Goal keeper Karius and Gomez are all still out of Liverpool squad at the moment due to injuries.
